MUSIP, a global project

Understanding how news is made to better understand the world. That is our ambition.

By 2029, we will open a living News & Press Museum in Paris: interactive, immersive and firmly rooted in today’s world. MUSIP is a cultural, educational and civic project for everyone.

How is an investigation conducted? Why can the same event be reported in different ways? How are social media and artificial intelligence changing the way news is made and consumed? How can we distinguish reliable information from misinformation? Why are freedom of the press and the right to information essential to every democracy?

From print journalism to television, radio to podcasts, from the earliest newspapers to social media and the emerging uses of artificial intelligence, MUSIP will explore the history — and above all the present — of news and journalism. Visitors will see, understand and experience the work of the people who make the news, while also engaging with the criticism, mistakes, transformations and debates that shape journalism.

A living memorial will also pay tribute to journalists who have lost their lives in the course of their work, through the reporting and journalism they left behind.

But MUSIP will be much more than a museum in Paris. It is already a global project, designed to reach audiences far beyond its future walls:

A vibrant cultural and civic program: talks, debates, screenings, conferences, workshops, temporary exhibitions and, eventually, an annual festival.

A presence across France and internationally
Through events and travelling exhibitions, in major cities as well as areas further removed from leading cultural institutions;

A strong educational mission
Particularly for schoolchildren, teaching them how news is made, how to verify a source, analyze an image and understand emerging uses of artificial intelligence;

Original digital content
Including interviews, podcasts, and educational videos created for social media

A place for dialogue and exchange, where journalists, researchers, teachers, students, citizens and people from all backgrounds can share experiences and perspectives.

International in its teams, partners, content and ambition, MUSIP aims to bring different cultures and journalistic practices into conversation, rather than looking at news solely through a French lens.

In a world saturated with content, where each of us can be a reader, viewer, producer and distributor of information, MUSIP is built on a simple conviction: understanding how news is made has become essential to thinking critically and participating fully as a citizen.

That is why MUSIP aims to be a new kind of museum of society: a museum to visit, learn, experiment and debate in — and a museum to return to.
