Cookie Management and Preferences
A cookie or other tracker is a technology likely to store or read information on the device used when browsing a website. Some trackers are necessary for the website to function; others can be used, for example, to measure audience reach or enable the use of services provided by third parties.
1. Which Trackers Are Used on the MUSIP Website?
MUSIP aims to limit the use of cookies and other trackers to what is useful for the operation and improvement of its website. The list below corresponds to the trackers actually present on the online version.
The inventory of cookies and other trackers was carried out on the online version of the site by browsing the site without expressing a choice, then after acceptance and after refusal of trackers subject to consent. It covers trackers deposited or read by WordPress and its extensions, the hosting provider, the audience measurement tool, and third-party content or services integrated into the site.
Trackers used exclusively for site administration (administrator logins, editing tools, administration area security) are never placed on visitors’ devices and therefore do not appear in this list. The hosting provider (IONOS) does not place any trackers on visitors’ devices.
Strictly Necessary Trackers
Trackers strictly necessary for the operation of the site or the provision of a service expressly requested by the user may be used without prior consent. In particular, they may allow remembering a technical choice or user preferences.
The site uses the following strictly necessary trackers:
Cookie Preferences (Complianz, tool hosted on the site): Remembers the choices expressed by the user regarding trackers so they are not asked again on each visit. Duration: 6 months.
Language (pll_language, Polylang, extension hosted on the site): Remembers the chosen language (French or English). Duration: 1 year.
Display Compatibility (wpEmojiSettingsSupports, WordPress): Temporary storage in the browser to verify emoji rendering. It contains no personal data and is deleted when the tab is closed.
Anti-Robot Protection (Cloudflare Turnstile): Verifies, when using the newsletter subscription form, that it is not filled out by a bot. This technical processing is necessary for form security and serves no other purpose.
Audience Measurement
Audience measurement trackers may be used to understand site traffic and performance. Depending on the chosen tool and its configuration, these trackers may require the user’s prior consent or, under strict conditions, be exempt from it.
MUSIP uses the Matomo audience measurement tool, installed and hosted on the site’s own servers. The collected data is not transmitted to Matomo’s publisher or any third party.
Matomo is configured to meet the exemption conditions defined by the CNIL:
Data is used exclusively to produce anonymous traffic and performance statistics for the site;
IP addresses are anonymized (removal of the last two octets);
No user tracking across other sites and no cross-referencing with other processing is performed;
Geolocation is limited to the country and city in an approximate manner;
Referrer addresses are recorded without their parameters;
The lifespan of cookies is limited to 13 months;
Visit data is retained for a maximum of 25 months. Beyond that, only aggregated and anonymous statistics are kept.
Cookies used:
_pk_id(distinguishes new and returning visitors, 13 months),_pk_ses(groups pages of a single visit, 30 minutes),_pk_ref(remembers the referrer site, 6 months).
Data processed: pages viewed, date and time of visit, referrer site, approximate country and city, device type, operating system, browser, screen resolution, outbound link clicks, file downloads.
The user can object to this audience measurement at any time using the module provided for this purpose in the privacy policy.
Third-Party Content or Services
Certain contents or services integrated into the site may, depending on their operation, deposit or read trackers from third parties. When consent is required, these elements must not trigger the deposit or reading of concerned trackers until the user has expressed their choice.
The following third-party contents and services are integrated into the site:
YouTube Videos (Google): Playing an integrated video results in the deposit of trackers by YouTube and Google, notably for measurement and advertising purposes. These videos are therefore subject to consent. Until the user accepts, they are replaced by a preview and no YouTube trackers are deposited or read.
Newsletter Subscription Form (Brevo): The form is displayed from Brevo’s servers (newsletter subcontractor). It does not deposit or read any trackers on the user’s device.
2. Your Choices and Management of Your Preferences
When trackers subject to consent are used, none of these trackers may be deposited or read before the user has expressed their agreement.
The user must be able to accept or refuse trackers subject to consent with the same degree of simplicity. They must also be able to make a choice by purpose when several distinct purposes are proposed.
Consent can be withdrawn as simply as it was given at any time. Permanent access to cookie settings or preferences must allow modifying the choices made.
The collection and management of preferences are handled by a Consent Management Banner (Complianz), displayed during the first visit. It offers “Accept”, “Reject”, and “View Preferences” buttons right from the first level. Refusal is as simple as acceptance, and the user can make a choice by purpose.
Preferences can be modified at any time via the “Manage Consent” tab, permanently displayed at the bottom of the screen on all pages of the site, which reopens the preferences management window.
3. Retention Duration of Choices
The choices expressed by the user regarding trackers must be retained for an appropriate duration to avoid asking for their choice on every visit. As a best practice, the CNIL generally recommends a duration of six months to retain both acceptance and refusal.
The choices expressed by the user are kept for 6 months, whether acceptance or refusal. At the end of this period, the banner is presented again.

The durations of YouTube cookies are set by Google and may change.
5. Modifying Your Preferences
When the site uses trackers subject to consent, the user can change their mind at any time using the preference management mechanism accessible on the site.
The user can return to their choices at any time by clicking on the “Manage Consent” tab, displayed permanently at the bottom of the screen on all pages of the site. They can then accept or refuse each category of trackers, or withdraw previously given consent. The new choice is taken into account immediately.
Opting out of audience measurement (Matomo), which does not require consent, is done via the dedicated module in the privacy policy.
6. Updating This Page
This page may be updated depending on the evolution of tools and services used on the site. The list of cookies and trackers must be reviewed when the technical configuration of the site changes.
